VPN? Als Digital Nomad kun je niet zonder!

De term Digital Nomad hoor je tegenwoordig steeds vaker. Wanneer je als Digital Nomad werkt of gaat werken is een van de belangrijkste dingen die je nodig hebt een internetverbinding. Zonder internet kun je niks beginnen.

Wifi is in deze tijd bijna overal ter wereld vanzelfsprekend, loop maar eens een café of restaurant binnen en je hebt al wifi. Toch is deze wifi verbinding niet helemaal veilig en altijd digitaal afluisterbaar ondanks dat het heel handig is. Om deze reden is het gebruik van een VPN verbinding zeer aan te raden! Wifi is ook zeker niet overal ter wereld vanzelfsprekend. 

Digital Nomad

Wat is VPN

VPN betekent letterlijk Virtual Private Network die niet afluisterbaar is. Met een VPN verbinding heb je een beveiligde en anonieme toegang tot het internet vanuit heel de wereld. Ideaal dus als je vanuit je luie stoel in een warm land wilt werken. Of natuurlijk keihard aan het werk bent in een saaie hotelkamer. 

De versleuteling van de VPN verbinding vindt plaats op jouw eigen laptop en de ontsleuteling bij de VPN provider. Op deze manier kan er dus niemand meeluisteren in jouw privé verbinding. De kosten VPN hangen af van welke provider/aanbieder jij kiest. Het zijn er verschillende dus vergelijk deze goed met elkaar. 

Netflix en VPN

Wat ook nog eens handig is aan een VPN verbinding is dat je online komt met een door jou zelf gekozen IP-adres. Na al het harde werken is er soms ook wat tijd over voor ontspanning zoals met een leuke serie op Netflix bijvoorbeeld. In ieder land/werelddeel heeft Netflix weer een andere collectie van films en series online staan. In Nederland zijn we heel vrij met het uitzenden van dingen maar in andere landen zijn ze hier minder vrij in en worden er dingen geblokkeerd. Met een VPN verbinding zou je dus gewoon de Nederlandse collectie kunnen blijven kijken wanneer je inlogt met een Nederlands IP-adres. Bij NordVPN Netflix kun je hier meer informatie over vinden. 

Landen & VPN

In sommige landen is het echt noodzakelijk om met een VPN verbinding te werken. Zo was ik bijvoorbeeld in China en kwam ik erachter dat er vele websites en social media geblokkeerd zijn door de Chinese overheid. Ook wordt in China vrijwel alles afgeluisterd. Helaas kwam ik hier dus pas achter op het moment dat ik al in China zelf was en kon ik dus vrij weinig werk doen vanuit het land. Hiervoor raad ik zeker een goede VPN verbinding aan!

Ook is een VPN verbinding best handig met het boeken van bijvoorbeeld vliegtickets. Wanneer je een lokaal IP-adres gebruikt kan dit je veel geld besparen tijdens het boeken van vliegtickets, auto’s huren en zo nog veel meer.

Opaalkust

Zoals je kunt lezen is het echt aan te raden om VPN te gebruiken wanneer je als Digital Nomad werkt, gaat werken of gewoon op reis gaat en vanuit daar iets online wilt doen. De belangrijkste voordelen zet ik hier nog even op een rijtje: je hebt een verhoogde privacy, het verwijderen van Geoblocking en een encryptie beveiliging. Ga dus goed voorbereid naar het buitenland en bekijk goed wat de mogelijkheden zijn voor een veilige VPN verbinding.
